Vicki's Story
I can clearly remember that day…12 Apr 07, the phone rang just as my colleague and I were about to leave the office for the day. It was from a British customer who lost his passport, he need a visa urgently for his new passport to fly on Saturday, which is two days later, to Thailand to meet his parents whom he had not seen for five years. Also, he needed to rush back on the subsequent Monday for an important meeting.
Immediately the next morning, we collect the relevant documents from the customer and head back office to contact our associates for help to process the visa.? However, until 2.30pm, nobody is willing to take the case due to the time constraint. Finally, I called the customer and we decided to go down to the Immigration office directly with no further delay.
We reached the immigration office at 4.02pm. My heart sank as the counter staff informed me visa processing was closed for the day, the earliest we can get the visa is next Monday.? However, knowing the importance of this visa to the customer, I am determined not to give up even if there is only a very slim chance.? I decided to seek the help of their Department Head. Unfortunately, he is not available at the counter.? We waited for 20 minutes before we finally managed to meet and relate our case to the Department head. Though he empathized with us, he was unable to guarantee we will get the visa processed as the office would be closed in another 13minutes.
The time seemed to drag , it was the longest wait I ever had. One by one, I saw the staff left the counter for the day.? As the last staff walked out from the counter, she told us to come back next week as the office was closed for the day.? Luckily at this moment, another three customer came in to collect their passport. Finally, after some persuasion, the kind staff agreed to help.? As she headed back to her counter, I saw a red envelope on her desk.? She looked up and signaled at me to collect the passport. At that moment, my heart was palpitating with joy.? It is amazingly unbelievable! We got the visa in 13minutes!?
