Lhasa/Tibet Travel Permit- Questions and Answers

  • What is the maximum period of the permit validity?

Normally, the Lhasa permit issue via JDL Global will be valid for 10 days and in order to make your 10 days worthwhile a grace period of about 3 days for your travel arrangement to Tibet will be given to you before the effective start date of the Tibet permit.
Alternatively, you can specific the date you wish to enter into Tibet and we can provide you with the permit according to your date of entry. However, please do provide at least 10 business day allowances for our processing prior to your entry date.

For example:

If your Tibet permit starts on 10th April and end on 19th April, you will normally receive your permit by 6th or 7th of April.

  • Can I extend the period of the permit while in Tibet?

No, you can¡¯t but JDL Global can provide 20 days permit at an additional cost of RMB 100.

  • Can I arrange my air, bus or train ticket before the travel?

Actually, we do not recommend that. It will be best that you only purchase your ticket when you received your Lhasa/Tibet permit when the original document/photocopy is e-mail/fax to you. Alternative, you could ask your Chinese local friends to purchase the ticket on your be-half but just be sure that you can receive the approved scan copy before your departure.

  • Why I must engage a tourist guide if I need to travel out of Lhasa?

This is part of the mandatory requirement due to the changes of the political situation. The original PSB permit can no longer be hold by the foreigner. Foreigners also need to engage a tour guide during their period when they are visiting beyond Lhasa city. The cost of the Tour guide is factor into the rate that we have designed for our customer, which is payable directly to the JDL Global.

  • What does the Tour Guide do during the trip with me?

The tour guide main responsibility is just following you around Tibet during your period. He has no right in deciding where you should go and how you should go as long as you follow the original schedule plan. He will hold the original copy of the Tibet travel permit while you hold the photocopy one. You need not be responsible for any of his expenses (including accommodation) except the transportation expenses, which he needs to follow you throughout the period.

  • Can I process the permit even I am not in China right now?

Yes, you can as long as you have a valid international passport and a valid China visa at the time of your application. You can just scan us your valid copy of the cover page passport (with the photo on it) as well as the valid china visa.

  • Who need the Tibet permit?

All foreign visitors except Chinese national, Hong Kong and Macau.
